SCIENCE APPLICATION PROGRAM BEGINS AT HIGH SCHOOLS

The Ministry sent application guidelines concerning the mentioned Science Applications Program in High Schools to all provincial directorates. According to the guidelines, the program will be implemented in high schools affiliated to the Director General for Secondary Education located in pilot cities namely Adıyaman, Ankara, Aydın, Bursa, Iğdır, Isparta. It is planned to disseminate the program to all high schools in the entire country in the next school year.
 
The program aims at raising awareness of students and developing their skills in an effort to establish infrastructure for academic studies such as scientific thought, research and presentation, report preparation and expression in areas such as science, technology, environment, economy, education, values, geography, history, culture, literature, arts, economy, law and politics. Within this framework, students will organize scientific meetings such as conference, panel, seminar, symposium and forum and involve in scientific studies.
 
Students will make research with academicians and organize scientific meetings
Provincial directorates of national education, Anatolian, science and social science high schools, school administrations, teachers and academicians from related departments of universities will make contributions to the program. The Ministry will cooperate with the universities.
 
High school students will form groups in order to organize scientific meetings such as conference, panel, seminar, symposium and forum. The topics of these meetings will be determined according to the interests and wishes of students and can include more than 100 subjects such as, "Biomedical Device Technologies, Big Data and Data Mining, Ecological Balance, Electrical Devices, E-Commerce, Future Technologies, Genetics and Biotechnology, Aviation and Space, Nanotechnology, Internet of Things and Organic Agriculture."
 
We are aiming at making contribution to the education of students by teaching them while practicing
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer made the following comments about the program: "It is important to prepare our students for life. Due to this reason, we want to support them from every angle and make contribution to their learning process by giving them the opportunity to practice. The science application program will teach high school students to conduct academic studies and organize scientific meetings. We will raise their awareness about many subjects such as science, technology, environment, economy, education, values, geography, history, culture, literature, arts, economy, law and politics through these meetings and they also develop their skills in academic areas such as scientific thought, research, reporting, presentation and self-expression."
 
Özer noted that the program will be implemented in two levels; one at schools and the other at the provincial level adding that students will organize meetings like conference, panel, seminar and panel about science, mathematics and technology.
